The article that I was intriguied by the most was the article about “real” vs “fake”. I believe there is fake things that are just as good as the real. For example a pair of fake jordan shoes vs real jordan shoes. I have seen fake jordan’s that are the exact same as jordan’s, but the fake are half the price. This article also talked about how there is a difference between the Luxor Hotel in Egypt vs the so called fake one in Las Vegas. Obviously the one in Las Vegas isn’t the original and will not be labeled like the one in Egypt, but I don’t think it should be labeled as not being as good. Some people may actually like the Las Vegas one better so it just depends on the person.   Some people may not have the money to go out to egypt and experience the hotel there so by having an alternative in Las Vegas could be beneficial for many.  The las Vegas one is not doing bad because it is obviously pretty popular and is a popular tourist attraction.  The other article was ok it was about how people may say something looks a certain way and it may be the total opposite.  I believe this only occurs with the unkown that people have never actually witnessed in real life.

I believe cartoons do not send hidden messages. People that think there are hidden messages in cartoons are the people that are looking for wierd things. Cartoons are not sending any messages about homosexuals and the issue is brought up by people thinking nonsense. Cartoons are shows on tv for kids to be entertained, just like how there are shows for adults. I will admit most reality shows are trash because it influences the younger generation. In every reality show people know they are being filmed so obviously they are gonna act a little different than in real life. The dating reality shows make it seem like life is easy and falling in love with someone is even easier, but in real life it is not easy. But their are some reality shows that are good because they inform the younger generation on things that will help them in their future.  For example shows like MTV True Life where they show the negative effects of things helps open our societies eyes to certain things.  I dont think art has only one meaing. Everyone has their own opinion on art, one may think its the ugliest piece of art they have ever approached, but another may think its the best.

Images surround us everywhere we go and was amazed how true it is that people go to certain images during certain times. For example, in article 1 it asks why so many people turn certain images during a war or crises? I think this is because most of us support one another especially in our country when people have to be their for each other. As our country fights people show their appreciation by putting up certain stickers on cars and windows.
Images also persuade people to do things. The example the book gives is Hitler and how he persuaded tons of people to back him and help him. But it also can just be images in our everyday lives. Like images on commercials and magazines. For example a Carls Jr commercial with a beautiful model in her bikini eating a burger from their will grab peoples attention and persuade them to eat one of them as well just cuz a model was eating one.

This Chapter did not catch my interest as much as some of the previous ones, but there were a few parts that were intriguing to me. Art has now became something people do to express themself and try and make money off. But I wonder what the caveman era art was intended for. I personally do not think they were expressing themself like people do today. I believe it was just something they did because there was not much else to do. The article about dreams was the article I liked the best on this reading. I liked this article the best because I can relate to it. Everyone has dreams, some have them more often then others. Few think dreams have meanings to real life and others do not think any thing of their dreams. I think certain dreams do have meaning to them, but I guess it just depends on the person. I also think people dream about things that are the top of their mind before going to sleep. For example, my friend had a big basketball game on Friday and Thursday night he told me he had a dream he scored the game winning shot to win the game for us. Well he took the last second shot to win the game; he missed it, but I believe the dream was a sign for him to be ready for that shot. commented on Eunis Hernandez’s

All the articles in this reading are about images and how people percieve them.  I really liked the part about seeing a certain thing in a photo compared to seeing it in real life.  Why isnt a photo good enough for people? Why do people need to go and see it in real life? People think that a photo is not good enough because its nothing like real life, but I think if you can get a photo in detail and see everything you would in real life then why would one spend a lot of money for an air ticket and a hotel and stuff to see it in person.   Overall i think images become icons just for people to make money.  There is no diff between a Mona Lisa soap dispenser and a regular soap dispenser becasue they both do the same thing. It all has to do with money, the person that comes up with certain creations like that is not doing it to make our lives easier he/she is just trying to make their life better by living a wealthy life.

Reader Response #3

This reading applies to me because even though I have not gotten any tattoos or anything else to my body if I wanted to I would. But it does not have anything to do with being defiant. I would get a tattoo or piercing by chose because it would be something I would want to do. I have never met anyone that has told me they have gotten a tattoo for no reason. Everyone that I know with a tattoo has a good reason for it. I agree with parts of the texts, but I also disagree with parts. I agree with the part that says people get tattoos to make a personal statement to an extent because some just cover their bodies, while others just get a few meaningful ones. Also I agree with article two by how it says photography shows a lot about the past. For example by looking at photos you may tell ones personality by if they smile in a lot of their pictures or if their always in pictures with a mean look. I learned many different things to imagery on the body to catching suspects. I feel the new system for the witnesses is a better way than the previous. The text did not change any views, but it did open my eyes to how much past pictures can mean.

Mirroring Ourselves by Daniel Goleman and Susan Bordon
I think everyone can relate to this piece in one way or another. I can relate because I am very picky with the clothes that I wear. I will not wear clothing if I do not like the brand and that is just like how others may think their overweight when they look perfectly fine. I see myself looking better in clothes with the brand I like, but in reality its all in my head. That is the exact same with the people that look fine and think they need to lose weight.
I agree with the text because people try to do many different things to look better. Many people take fat burners to try and make themself look better. It may help them look better in the present, but nobody knows what they are doing to the inside of their body. The same goes for diets because even though diets help lose weight they may also be bad for one. I also agree that students that are more attractive get more attention from a teacher. But I think that is only temporary until the teacher gets to know the person. For example if there is a person that sags there pants and wears really baggy clothing and a person that is dressed casual; the person dressed casual will be more approachable. After getting to know both the person that is always dressed casual may have the worst attitude and may get less attention as time goes on.
I learned many different things about physical attraction and why people think they need to be attractive. My opinions have not changed after reading this article because I have always felt that nobody should change for anyone.

Reader-Response The World Of The Image

September 17, 2009

This piece of The World Of The Image by Trudy Smoke and Alan Robbins is about how people view things in their own way.  The text has a good perspective on vision and I can relate to it in a couple different ways.   Many people tend to see things the way they want and an example  I can give of myself would be from the past.  As a kid I would see certain shapes and pictures that clouds formed, but when I would have someone else look they couldn’t see any shapes or pictures that I saw.   Which is a result of people looking at things their own way.

I agree with the text in this chapter.  Everyone is unique and see things differently.  If everyone saw stuff the same way then we would all be doing the same things.  For example I may think a certain job is the best job one could do by seeing the things they do on a daily basis, but another person may think it’s a boring job and would never try it.  This is why there is so much variety in the world.

“He sees little children, and zoo animals and domestic ones…”(20).  This qoute is an example of people seeing things in their own way.  This peson was in a car accident and suffered brain damage and that is what caused him to start hallucinating.  Another person could have had the same injury, but it would not be for sure he would hallucinate those things or even hallucinate any thing.  “10 percent is in the eye and 90 percent is mental” (4).  This is exactly why every one percieves things in their own way because 90 percent of it comes from the brain and nobody has the same brain and thinks the same way.

I learned a few new things about different parts of the eye and how they work.   I also knew certain things, like how the brain is the biggest factor of why people see things in their own way.   My views have grew stronger on the fact that every one percieves things differently.
